Bobble Blue!

Thanks for listening to my weather rant last post. I think it worked, though. It stopped raining:) It was a crafty weekend at la casa de Dragoknitfly. I finished up Bobble Blue and K brewed some fine homecraft delights. Scroll down for some pics in all it's casked glory. More importantly (sorry, honey!) ...

Bobble Blue Pattern: Bobble Blue by Mari Lynn Patrick
Source: Interweave Knits, Spring 2006

Size: 38
Yarn: Plymuth Suri Merino, 8.5 balls in French Blue (recommended yarn, color used in magazine - how creative am I?)
Needles: US Size 6 and 7 Addi Turbos
Buttons: From my stash. I think they might be my mom's even. She gave me a prescription bottle filled with buttons a few years back, but I've thrown in many of my own thrown in since.
Modifications: Three stitch bobbles rather than five. I also added a half inch of ribbing.
Comments: Fun pattern, although I'm not convinced the yarn is a good match. With the short sleeves and the alpaca blend yarn, something seems amiss. I thought this from the very beginning, but found the yarn so cheap I had to use it. I'm hoping it will be a nice work and summer evening sweater. Overall, the sweater is soft and warm with a delicate halo of fuzz and only a smidge itchy (but a lot more than a smidge the second you break a sweat). If I went back and reknit this, I would make the smaller size and add another couple inches of ribbing. I'll have to reblock this puppy and see if I can create the same results with this sweater.

And, here are a billion more pictures...

Buttons!

Dude, I never noticed how many power lines ran in front of my house. That can't be normal.

BEER And, as promised a little American Pale Ale Homebrew! Mmmmm... beer.

RECENT CASTON You didn't think I would finish a project and not cast on for a new one, did you? Here's Prairie Tunic 4 row in. STASH Oh, and last but certainly not least. A little stash enhancement. That's STR Fairgrounds from the Blue Moon Sock Club on your left and Vesper Sock Yarn in Antigone on your right. Yum and yum.

Mmmmmm, home brew. I miss brewing. It always smelled so good while cooking.

I'm with you on the short-sleeve alpaca sweater. Something just seems so wrong. But yours looks great.

Ha ha, I totally noticed that when I looked at that first picture: "Holy crap that's a lot of power lines!"
I think the sweater looks adorable! And hey, I've definitely found that a BIG part of knitting is learning from each piece's successes and failures.

Box Bag Tutorial

A couple of you inquired whether I made this pouch based on a tutorial or pattern and if not, if I could provide one. Ask and you shall receive!

I've learned so much from tutorials out on the internets, I'm happy I can give back for once. Bear with me, though. This is my first tutorial and creating one is much tougher than I imagined. I give anyone who's created a tutorial tons of credit!

I feel obligated to preface this by admitting I'm a trial and error sewer. I make things up as I go along and test things during the sewing process to see if I'm achieving my desired results. Also, I taught myself to sew just playing around on a sewing machine, so I don't always use text book methods. Just wanted come clean before you all jump into this and so you have a little understanding if I did something in a backass way. The pattern works, which is all that matters to me!

Because of the versatility of this pattern, my instructions can be used more as guidelines. You can e…

Monkeying Around

MONKEY SOCKS

Finished these on Saturday and they haven't left my feet since (well, I did take them off in the shower). These are by far my best fitting, most comfy pair of handkit socks ever. For reals, y'all. Just a satisfying blend of stretchy and warm. In the words of Rach3l Ray, "Yum-O!"

Dad's Sharfik: Done!

Here's Sharfik, blocking. This is the first time I blocked a scarf and didn't even think about it not fitting along the blocking board. I folded it at the corner like below. Not sure what the normal protocol is, but this worked just fine.

Here's the final product. I'll have to get some shots of my dad modeling after I give it to him this weekend.
Pattern: Dad's Sharfik by Kathy at GrumperinaYarn: Karabella Aurora 8 in grey, 4 1/2 balls, purchased at Wild & Wooly in LexingtonNeedles: Size 7 AddisModifications: NoneDates Knitted: January ?, 2006 - February 12, 2006Comments: This was a fun knit and yields (if I do say so myself) a beautiful project. The scarf is nice, thick, and warm, but still nice enough for evening use. I hope my dad likes it! Next up: Norwegian StockingsSo, I've been a total slacker with my Olympic project. I wonder if I can just switch to these... Anyway, Fair Isle is my new best friend. Electra had a little, but didn'…
