My First Swatch


Despite all the good warnings around swatching, I'm always just too lazy or too excited to jump into the new project to bother. I'll knit for a bit of the project, then measure to see if I'm on track and have been pretty lucky so far. For Bobble Blue, I knitted a sleeve for a swatch. That might sort of count. After hearing all the complaints around blogland about Hourglass Sweaters made with Cash Iroha stretching and stretching and stretching after washing, wearing, etc., I thought I should finally heed the ubiquitous warnings. Hence, my first swatch! I even washed and blocked it. I'm so proud of myself. I did knit two rows less than directed, but we won't discuss that. And now I'm swatching for Cherry without even casting on for Hourglass. I guess I can change, huh?

Notice any changes around my blog? I'm trying to neaten things up a bit, more complex when you don't know anything about html. I'm learning, though. But, that's why I'm taking baby steps with some changes, not a complete blog overhaul. Still having some issues, but it's been fun learning how all this stuff works. good times.

I admit I used not really do gauge swatches but after one or two disasters I changed my ways! I've found it's also good for determining what kind of cast-on, selvedges, etc. are best.
I did notice you changed your blog layout--look great!
P.S. Greg and I have the last 100 miles left to finish the AT, which we are trying to do this fall...so that was my 1st time on Katahdin!

So I always make a swatch, but I've never followed through with a wash/ block/ dry! I guess I've been lucky!

Done: Weekender Bag

Happy 2007! I hope you all had a good time ringing in the new year. I have some lofty goals for this upcoming year and some musings on last year, but that's for another post because-- Finally! Dominating the cording. As the layers increased in the sewing, keeping the cording sandwiched in place became challenging. Norwegian Stockings

I finished my Norwegian Stockings on Monday... Here they are! NOTES: Pattern: Norwegian Stockings, Folk Socks by Nancy Bush Yarn: Dale Baby Ull, 2 skeins chocolate brown (3172), 1.5 skeins sage green (9436), just enough for snowflakes off white (0020). Needles: Size 2, 40" Addis Dates Knit: February 13, 2006 - March 13, 2006 Modifications: As Eunny and Jess did, I went down a needle size and subbed Baby Ull for Heilo. Notes: It's been said before, but I'll say it again... what a great pattern. Extremely well written, memorizable (is that a word?), and interesting from cast on to cast off. Usually I get sick of projects about halfway through, but trudge through for the cherished FO. With these, I was entertained the entire process and am itching to cast on for some more fair isle.
