Done: Unripe Banana aka Cherry

It's been so long since I've written an FO report, I forget how! Yikes. After months of toil on this project, it's finally complete. UNRIPE BANANA AKA CHERRY Pattern. Cherry by Anna Bell. Yarn. Jo Sharp Soho Summer DK Cotton in Freesia. 7 and a smidge balls bought dirt cheap at Webs last spring. Size. 36 Needles. Size 3 and 6 Addis Time to Knit. July ?? to October 15. I knit the swatch last summer, though. Other materials. 5 dark red buttons, chocolate brown velvet ribbon. Comments on Pattern. Well written and clear. You have to keep track of the stitch pattern as you decrease and increase, which might cause trouble for beginners. Overall, the stitch pattern keeps things interesting, but not overwhelming. It kept me engaged the duration of the project, which is quite a feat! If you decide to make this definitely spring for an extra ball of yarn. For the size I made (and the size above, in fact), the pattern calls for 7 balls of yarn and I used a bit of an 1/8. Adn I...

Unripe Banana Blocking

Wow, two posts in as many days? This sweater resembles anything but a cherry, so I've re-named it unripe banana. That's the exact color of the yarn - unripe bananas. Gross to eat, but lovely to wear. So, unripe banana is blocking as we speak. I'm looking forward to a seaming party tonight! Okay, no one's looking foward to seaming, but I am excited about a new, long-overdue sweater! Stay tuned!

Playing Catch Up

I haven't posted in the last....er, month, but I've been keeping true to my WIPs, and um, adding a few new ones. It's all good, though. Promise. Flock of Triangles Quilt I'm getting a little deeper into the quilt process. I've spent a few evenings (well, for what little time I can handle in my sweltering, AC-free, craft room) cutting out squares and triangles for my quilt. I keep reminding myself that the extra care I put into making the pieces perfect will pay off later. After cutting, I started a little excel chart indicating placement of all the triangles. Then, assigned each fabric a number. FINALLY, I can start sewing!! Hip, Bad Ass Dress I also got some fabric for this dress, too. I've been following Vogue 8280 (thanks again for the tip, Veronique! ) loosely and felt like the dress was gonna be my greatest sewing project to date until I reached the sleeves (okay, I won't lie. Those flanges were a real bitch, too). Anyway, I made some minor tweaks to th...

Baby Blankets & Booties

I'm finished with all my baby knitting: Pattern Big Bad Baby Blanket Source Stitch 'n Bitch Handbook Yarn Blue Sky Organic Cotton in Nut and Bone, 4 skeins each Needles Size 8 Addis Time to Knit Blanket #2 - July 7 - July 15; Blanket #3 - July 17-July 26. Comments Great pattern, great blanket. I used larger gauge yarn, so my blankets came out a big larger than the original. I made sure to end each ball of yarn at the end of a row. Because of the thick, organic texture of the yarn, the weaving was really noticeable in a stockinette portion. The garter stitch hid them well, though. The yarn was a drapey dream while knitting, but stiffened up a goot bit after washing / blocking . I'm sure (I hope ) it will soften with use. Mods I opted for garter stitch instead of seed stitch just for timesavings and peace of mind (seed stitch is beautiful, but takes me SO LONG). The third and final baby blanket was the perfect project to keep my hands busy while ready the 7th HP book. I s...
